Should the New Jersey Nets trade for Amare Stoudemire?
There are some rumors and reports floating around that the NJ Nets may make some moves before the trade deadline, February 18th.
One potential trade involves the Nets acquiring Amare Stoudemire from the Phoenix Suns. This is an interesting idea.
Stoudemire is a scorer, averaging 21.1 points per game for
his career. We all know by now the Nets need people that can score. The Suns
are probably thinking they will not resign Stoudemire once his contract runs
out, so why not see what they can get for him now. The Nets just might have the
pieces to pull off a trade like this.
The Nets have ten draft picks over the next three years.
They can give up one of those picks in this deal. New Jersey also has some
young talent the Suns may be interested in.
Many players around the league have made it known they would
not play for the New Jersey Nets. The Nets have been terrible this year, to put
it nicely. Stoudemire however said he sees the potential in the team and thinks
they have the pieces to be successful in the very near future.
"Potential. Absolutely. I think that's a team with
potential," Stoudemire said. "They can definitely contend in the near
future with the right pieces."
The Nets have a young and talented center in Brook Lopez.
They have an All-Star point guard in Devin Harris as well as some other
youngsters. New Jersey would love to win the draft lottery this year and take
Kentucky freshman point guard John Wall. If they could find ways to make all of
this happen, four of the team’s five starters next season could be: Lopez,
Stoudemire, Harris and Wall. That is a
team that can succeed in this league.
Adding Stoudemire may help the Nets win a few more games
this season, which in return would slightly hurt their chances of winning the
draft lottery. I think it’s worth it. The potential reward might just be worth
this risk.
The Nets should put a package together and offer it to
Phoenix. Something like, Dallas’s first round draft pick and their choice of
Chris Douglas-Roberts or Courtney Lee. If the Suns require a second player, I
would even consider giving them Yi Jianlian.
Evan Roberts of WFAN in New York brought up an interesting
point. Amare Stoudemire might be enticed to join the Nets for reasons outside
of basketball as well. The power forward apparently is in the music business.
If he is seriously interested in getting bigger and better in music, Jay-Z is a
great guy to get close to and get help from. The rapper is part of the Nets
ownership group.
I think this would be a good deal for the New Jersey
Nets.
