Hot Stove: Bruney traded, Pettitte, Meche, Damon, Delgado, Castillo

The winter meetings are going on this week so we can expect the rumors and news to come out consistantly. Here are some of the stuff flying around lately:

Yankees

- Relief pitcher Brian Bruney had been rumored going to the Braves, has actually been traded to the Washington Nationals for a player to be named later.

- Initial reports stated that Andy Pettitte had rejected a contract offer from the Yankees. Recent reports however say no formal offer has been made but the two sides are beginning to talk. Pettitte does want to pitch again next season.

- The Cubs like Melky Cabrera

- John Heyman of Sports Illustrated expects the Yankees to offer Johnny Damon a two year contract worth $20 million. If Damon doesn't accept, the Yankees may move on to Mike Cameron, Jermaine Dye, Curtis Granderson, or even Marlon Byrd.

Mets

- Elmer Dessens has talked with a few teams but is expected to re-sign with the Mets.

- A Philadelphia news report is saying the Mets have acquired Pat Burrell but from what I have heard, the Mets have no interest in Burrell. So, stay tuned on this topic.

- The Mets are looking at Gil Meche as a possible trade target.

- Also keeping an eye on Carlos Delgado but have no interest in Nick Johnson.

- Still looking to trade Luis Castillo. One rumor had Castillo going to the Cubs in a three team trade that would send Blue Jays first baseman Lyle Overbay to the Mets.

- Another potential trade is rumored. The Dodgers and Mets may be discussing a swap of bad contracts. Castillo would go to LA while the Mets would receive Juan Pierre.

As a Royals fans (yes there are still a few of us), I'd love to see the Royals try to move Meche and his salary. The Mets would need to give up one of their young OFs and a young P to make it happen though.
